De recent verschenen trailer van John Patrick Shanleys romcom Wild Mountain Thyme, naar Shanleys toneelstuk Outside Mullingar, wordt in Ierland bespot vanwege de bedenkelijke Ierse accenten van Emily Blunt, Jamie Dornan en Christopher Walken.

Vooral Dornan (Flying Home, Fifty Shades of Grey) krijgt ervan langs omdat hij van Noord-Ierse afkomst is. Op Twitter worden hij en zijn tegenspelers uitgelachen door onder meer de Ierse politie, Dublin Airport en de Ierse stand-upcomedian Dara Ó Briain.

De Ierse accenten van Blunt, Dornan en Walken worden ook vergeleken met die van onder meer Tom Cruise en Nicole Kidman in Far and Away, Gerard Butler in P.S. I Love You en Julia Roberts in Michael Collins en Mary Reilly.

Verder onderzocht BBC hoe moeilijk het is om een Iers accent onder de knie te krijgen en reageerde de Ierse ambassade in Washington D.C. dat het een moeilijk accent is, maar de film er geweldig uitziet.

For the record, I could only manage half of the Wild Mountain Thyme trailer.
I have put the rest of it back in the fridge for later, where it will stay untouched until I eventually throw it out in a month.
