Het was een bewogen Oscaravond.

CODA sleepte niet enkel de Oscar voor Beste Film in de wacht, maar ook Beste Mannelijke Bijrol voor Troy Kotsur en Best Niet-Originele Scenario voor Sian Heder. Dune scoorde zes Oscars, allemaal in technische categorieën zoals geluid, soundtrack en montage. Jane Campion won Beste Regie voor The Power of the Dog  

Will Smith won Beste Acteur voor zijn vertolking van Richard Williams in King Richard. Eerder op de avond gaf hij Chris Rock een klap in het gezicht na een grap over zijn echtgenote Jada Pinkett-Smith. De Oscar voor Beste Actrice was voor Jessica Chastain, bijna onherkenbaar als televangeliste Tammy Faye Bakker in The Eyes of Tammy Faye. 

De Oscar voor Beste Vrouwelijke Bijrol ging naar Ariana DeBose als Anita in West Side Story. Beste Mannelijke Bijrol was voor Troy Kotsur.
