Uiteenlopende reacties op Lion King-, Aladdin, Maleficent 2, Endgame en Toy Story 4-presentaties tijdens CinemaCon
Disney pronkte met Avengers: Endgame, Toy Story 4 en Maleficent: Mistress of Evil op de filmbeurs CinemaCon, maar lokte het meeste reactie uit met nieuwe beelden uit Guy Ritchie’s Aladdin en Jon Favreau’s The Lion King.
Uit de eerste werd een door Will Smith gerapte versie van Friend Like Me uit de originele animatiefilm vertoond. Het nummer zorgde voor evenveel verdeeldheid als de onthulling van Smith als de Genie van enkele maanden terug.

New look at ALADDIN includes full performance of "Friend Like Me" (including Will Smith briefly beat-boxing). I'm going to be honest: it is pure nightmare fuel. It just looks … unnatural. The #CinemaCon audience liked it, though. Wishful thinking, I guess.

Wow the updated #Aladdin footage from CinemaCon is so much stronger than the earlier BTS stuff. Proves that post and VFX is everything on live-action adaptations. Had more personality than effects-heavy "Be Our Guest" number, which was flat, in hindsight.

De nieuwe blik op The Lion King werd dan weer unaniem positief onthaald. Het betrof een live-action-versie van de scène waarin Mufasa (stem van James Earl Jones) aan Simba (Donald Glover) uitlegt hoe ver hun koninkrijk reikt.

Disney loste ook de eerste plotdetails van de Maleficent-sequel. Daarin bindt Angelina Jolie’s koningin de strijd aan met nieuwkomer Queen Ingrith (Michelle Pfeiffer). Beiden eisen het moederschap van Aurora (Elle Fanning) op en Maleficent roept onder meer de hulp in van een elf gespeeld door Chiwetel Ejiofor.
Naast live-action-bewerking van animatiefilms stelde Disney ook de superheldenprent Avengers: Endgame voor met nieuwe fragmenten. Het ging om de ontmoeting tussen Thor (Chris Hemsworth) en Captain Marvel (Brie Larson), zoals te zien in de trailer, en een ruimtemissie tegen Thanos.

Tot slot werden de eerste 17 minuten van Toy Story 4 vertoond. De openingsscènes doen uit de doeken wat er met Bo Peep (Annie Potts) is gebeurd sinds Toy Story 2.
Ook de geboorte van het nieuwe stuk speelgoed Forky (Tony Hale) komt aan bod. Aan de reacties te zien wist het publiek het begin van de film alvast te smaken.

Well, TOY STORY 4 will make another however many billions of dollars. And it should sell just as many Kleenexes. No use rehashing the plot details of the footage, but I will say the animation is next-level. The real-world elements (rain, grass, wood) especially. #CinemaCon

Disney's #CinemaCon presentation was stunning.
Toy Story 4 was beautiful and looks like a great film. The Lion King looks like it can be a tremendous film. Aladdin actually looks fantastic!
And, Avengers: Endgame showing the new team dynamic, was epic.
