Tijdens de uitzendig van de Grammy Awards werd een nieuwe reclamespot van Disneys live-action Aladdin vertoond met daarin een eerste blik op Will Smith als de Genie.

De onthulling van Smith als het iconische personage, waaraan Robin Williams zijn stem leende in de originele animatiefilm, kwam bij velen aan als een schok.

Smiths Genie werd onder meer vergeleken met het onzichtbare monster uit Bird Box, de duimvormige wezens uit Spy Kids en een blauw geschminkt personage uit de tv-serie Arrested Development.
