Sound of Metal van het Belgische productiehuis Caviar is genomineerd voor drie Independent Spirit Awards, de Amerikaanse filmprijzen voor onafhankelijke cinema.

De film maakt kans op de Independent Spirit Award voor Beste Debuutfilm, Beste Acteur (Riz Ahmed) en Beste Acteur in een Bijrol (Paul Raci).

Verder sleepte Never Rarely Sometimes Always met zeven stuks de meeste nominaties in de wacht, gevolgd door Minari met zes en Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom en Nomadland met vijf.
