De Indische acteur Irrfan Khan is op drieënvijftigjarige leeftijd overleden aan de gevolgen van een neuro-endocriene tumor, een zeldzame vorm van kanker.

Khan maakte zijn acteerdebuut met een cameo in Mira Nairs Oscargenomineerde film Salaam Bombay uit 1988 en brak door met zijn rol in Asif Kapadia’s The Warrior uit 2001.

Na tal van Bollywood-rollen dook hij op in Engelstalige films zoals A Mighty Heart, The Namesake, The Darjeeling Limited, Slumdog Millionaire, The Amazing Spider-Man, Life of Pi, Jurassic World en Inferno.

Op sociale media brachten Jurassic World-regisseur Colin Trevorrow, de Indische actrice Priyanka Chopra en vele anderen een laatste groet uit aan Khan. Een greep uit de reacties:
