Het filmfestival van Venetië heeft het programma van de 78e editie aangekondigd. Die gaat door van 1 tot en met 11 september.

Onder meer de openingsfilm Madres paralelas van Pedro Almodóvar dingt mee naar de Gouden Leeuw, net als de Belgische coproductie Freaks Out van Gabriele Mainetti.

Ook Jane Campions The Power of the Dog, Paul Schraders The Card Counter en Pablo Larraíns prinses Diana-film Spencer zijn opgenomen in de officiële competitie.

Verder gaan buiten competitie enkele najaarsfilms in première: Denis Villeneuves Dune, David Gordon Greens Halloween Kills, Ridley Scotts The Last Duel en Edgar Wrights Last Night in Soho.
