Het houdt maar niet op met gedoe rond Grace of Monaco, het drama van La vie en rose-regisseur Olivier Dahan waarin Nicole Kidman Hollywoodlegende Grace Kelly vertolkt die haar huwelijk met Prins Rainier III van Monaco probeert te redden.

Enkele dagen terug meldden we nog dat de Amerikaanse distributeur Harvey Weinstein de film nog voor de wereldpremière in Cannes wou dumpen.

En nu komt aan het licht dat de Prinselijke Familie van Monaco allesbehalve opgezet is met de deels in België gedraaide productie. Hieronder een fragment uit hun statement:

“The Prince’s Palace would like to reiterate that this feature film cannot under any circumstances be classified as a biopic. The trailer appears to be a farce and confirms the totally fictional nature of this film. It reinforces the certainty, left after reading the script, that this production, a page of the Principality’s history, is based on erroneous and dubious historical references. The Princely Family does not in any way wish to be associated with this film which reflects no reality and regrets that it’s history has been misappropriated for purely commercial purposes.”

De kans dat de Prinselijke Familie de opening van het Filmfestival van Cannes op 14 mei zullen bijwonen, is dus piepklein.

Grace of Monaco draait vanaf 21 mei in de zalen.
