Van Roald Dahls klassieke kinderboek Charlie and the Chocolate Factory staat nog maar eens een filmbewerking in de steigers. Paul King, regisseur van de Paddington-films, zal die inblikken en momenteel wordt er gezocht naar een acteur om de excentrieke chocoladebaron Willy Wonka te vertolken.

Die rol ging eerder al naar Gene Wilder in Mel Stuarts Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory en naar Johnny Depp in Tim Burtons adaptatie. Ditmaal komen Donald Glover (Solo: A Star Wars Story), Ryan Gosling (Blade Runner 2049) en Ezra Miller (Justice League) in aanmerking.

Als scenarist werd alvast Simon Rich (Inside Out, The Secret Life of Pets) aangesteld en David Heyman (Harry Potter, Fantastic Beasts) produceert.
