Hoewel hij er eerder zelf naar hintte, heeft acteur Josh Gad (Frozen, Beauty and the Beast) het gerucht dat hij de Penguin zou spelen in Matt Reeves’ The Batman ontkend. “Ik heb echter genoten van de steun,” tweette hij.

De Penguin is één van vele slechteriken die genoemd worden om het tegen Robert Pattinsons Batman op te nemen. Ook namen als Catwoman, The Riddler, Two-Face, The Mad Hatter en Firefly zijn al gevallen.

The Batman zou geen oorsprongsverhaal worden, maar zich afspelen tijdens Bruce Waynes begindagen als detective en superheld.
