De Verenigde Staten staan in rep en roer nadat aanhangers van Donald Trump het Capitool in Washington D.C. bestormden. Daar vond een zitting van het Amerikaans Congres plaats om te bevestigen dat Joe Biden de presidentsverkiezingen heeft gewonnen.

Trump had zijn aanhangers opgeroepen om te komen betogen voor het Capitool en ze slaagden erin om het gebouw op gewelddadige wijze binnen te dringen, waarop de zitting moest worden opgeschort en Congresleden werden geëvacueerd.

Pas daarna riep Trump in een tweet op tot kalmte. Hij wordt door verschillende Hollywoodfiguren veroordeeld en beschuldigd van poging tot staatsgreep. Andere sterren reageren dan weer geschokt.

Regisseur James Mangold (Logan, Le Mans ’66) schuift de schuld op de Amerikaanse zender Fox News, die bekend staat om zijn pro-Trump-berichtgeving, en roept op tot een boycot. Borat-acteur Sacha Baron Cohen eist dan weer dat Trump permanent wordt verbannen van sociale media-platformen als Facebook.
