Zonet zijn in Hollywood de nominaties voor de Golden Globes bekendgemaakt, de Amerikaanse film- en televisieprijzen uitgereikt door de Hollywood Foreign Press Association. Lukas Dhonts speelfilmdebuut Girl maakt kans op de Golden Globe Award for Best Foreign Film. Daarnaast zijn er ook nominaties voor The Alienist en Beautiful Boy, Amerikaanse producties met een Vlaming in de regisseursstoel.

Voor de Golden Globe Award for Best Foreign Film zal Lukas Dhonts speelfilmdebuut Girl het opnemen tegen Capharnaüm van Nadine Labaki, Never Look Away van Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck, Roma van Alfonso Cuarón en Gouden Palm-winnaar Shoplifters van Hirokazu Kore-eda.

Daarnaast is The Alienist, de TNT-reeks van Jakob Verbruggen, genomineerd in de categorie Best Limited TV Series. Hoofdrolspeler Daniel Brühl is genomineerd als Best Actor in a Limited TV Series.

Ten slotte is Timothée Chalamet, een van de hoofdrolspelers uit Beautiful Boy, het Amerikaanse regiedebuut van Felix van Groeningen, genomineerd voor de Golden Globe voor Beste Mannelijke Bijrol.

Girl ligt me enorm nauw aan het hart. Het is een film ontstaan uit een vriendschap die erg belangrijk is voor mij. Iedereen die mij geholpen heeft Girl tot leven te brengen wil ik vastpakken en in hun oor fluisteren: Golden. Globe. Nominatie.”

De prijsuitreiking van de 76ste Golden Globe Awards vindt plaats op 6 januari in Hollywood.

A Star is Born domineert met vijf nominaties de drama-categorie, en Vice en Green Book met respectievelijk zes en vijf nominaties de musical or comedy-categorie.
