David Finchers Mank heeft in de VS een teleurstellend eerste weekend op Netflix achter de rug. De film kwam zaterdag binnen op tien in de lijst met meest bekeken films en werd ondertussen uit de top tien gezet door de Adam Sandler-komedie Little Nicky.

Ter vergelijking kwamen andere Netflix-Oscarkandidaten als Da 5 Bloods, The Trial of the Chicago 7 en Hillbilly Elegy telkens binnen op de eerste of tweede plaats. Ook in België staat Mank niet in de top tien van de meest bekeken films op Netflix.

Verder werpt Universals strategie om films sneller op video-on-demand uit te brengen niet alleen vruchten af aan de Amerikaanse box-office, maar ook in de Amerikaanse huiskamers.

Universal horrorkomedie Freaky is namelijk de nummer één op het VOD-platform FandangoNOW en de neowestern Let Him Go van Universals subdivisie Focus Features is de nummer één op Spectrum.

Daarnaast doen kerstfilms als Elf, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation en Fatman het goed op meerdere platformen.
