Het American Film Institute heeft Sound of Metal van het Belgische productiehuis Caviar uitgeroepen tot een van de tien beste films van 2020.

Verder staan er vijf films met Afro-Amerikaanse hoofdpersonages in de lijst: Da 5 Bloods, Judas and the Black Messiah, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, One Night in Miami en Soul. The Mandalorian werd dan weer tot een van de tien beste series van 2020 uitgeroepen.

De films en series werden gekozen door een jury, waartoe onder meer regisseurs Rian Johnson (Knives Out), Lulu Wang (The Farewell) en actrice Cynthia Erivo (Widows) behoorden.
