Regisseur Luca Guadagnino (Call Me by Your Name, Suspiria) bracht dit jaar niet alleen zijn kortfilm The Staggering Girl uit, maar verslond ook zelf heel wat films.

In zijn eindejaarslijstje prijst hij onder meer het oeuvre van de Franse cameravrouw Claire Mathon (Atlantique, Portrait de la jeune fille en feu).

Verder noemt hij de finales van Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman, Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood en Pedro Almodóvars Dolor y gloria ‘even verbluffend als de acteerprestaties die erin centraal staan’.

Ook Lena Dunhams vertolking van een Charles Manson-volgeling in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood heeft indruk gemaakt op Guadagnino.
