Say what you will about LUCY IN THE SKY, but it is the only movie this year where Ellen Burstyn utters the words, "all that astronaut dick has made you soft."

Lucy in the Sky is a mainstream fake version of a true story that really did involve poopy diapers— but this one is sanitized. Natalie Portman and Jon Hamm cannot save it. #tiff2019

Natalie Portman tries her damnedest in LUCY IN THE SKY but there’s only so much she can do with Finn Wolfhard’s exact haircut

‘Lucy in the Sky’ is extremely Noah Hawley. Some interesting ideas about existentialism and perspective, but it didn’t really work for me. Fans of Hawley’s penchant for abstraction and shifting aspect ratios may get more out of it. #TIFF19

the real victory in lucy in the sky is that finally 5′ 3″ women who walk very fast finally have representation in cinema. feels good

LUCY IN THE SKY: frequently very nice to look at but doesn’t make much sense. First hour gripped me but second didn’t hold at all

LUCY IN THE SKY: Noah Hawley aims for the Sky but can’t even achieve liftoff. Not even Natalie Portman can save this misbegotten movie

LUCY IN THE SKY: Noah Hawley knows melodramas are supposed to be entertaining right?

Lucy in the Sky: I was with it whenever Hawley & Portman allowed themselves to get their #SpaceMadness on. But the pivot to earnest self-improvement parable never really clicked. Hamm is perfectly cast as the preening NASA himbo, though. pic.twitter.com/WxULdnv3hy

LUCY IN THE SKY: No amount of aspect-ratio switch-ups adds up to an interesting film. Doesn't exactly help my case as a Natalie Portman apologist, either. Ellen Burstyn does get to say the line, "I think all that astronaut dick has made you soft," though. #TIFF19

LUCY IN THE SKY is a massive miss. A languid paced psychological snooze, a scattershot of no cares plot and scenes, only made interesting by the dead end creative choices. Ultimately, a waste of Natalie Portman. #TIFF19
