Het tragikomische Me and Earl and the Dying Girl van Alfonso Gomez-Rejon heeft zowel de Grand Jury Prize als de publieksprijs gewonnen op het Amerikaanse Sundance Film Festival. Het is het derde jaar op rij dat een film de twee awards verovert.

Me and Earl vertelt het verhaal van een aparte tiener en diens vriendschap met een klasgenoot die aan leukemie lijdt. Fox Searchlight kocht de distributierechten eerder deze week.

Ook The Diary of a Teenage Girl, de eerste Amerikaanse film van het Belgische productiehuis Caviar, viel in de prijzen met de Special Jury Award for Cinematography voor het camerawerk van Brandon Trost.
